Girl meets World

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arrive...

Somewhere in that darkness, someone screamed.
Someone cried for help.
There was despair, pain and sadness.

The dense air in the garden flew with a hint of grief. A flower was trampled upon, a small, little, sweet flower. But the flower still held a sweet fragrance.

She gave him an empty smile and said,

“Why are you here? Didn’t you say I had nothing to do with you?”

She gave out a bitter laugh as she slid off her chair and sat down on the ground in a fetal position.

“Go away”, she said putting her head in between her knees, “You can leave, like all the others, don’t bother with someone like me.”

Her voice was akin to a dead sentence. There was no soul in those words.

His stare bore at her. And then he chuckled.

“Is that supposed to make me angry and make me leave? At least, say something more insulting, you damn nerd!”, he said as he slid down sitting across her with a sullen expression.

She still did not look at him.

He narrowed his eyes at her figure. She was obviously upset and he was guilty. The words he had said had obviously triggered this reaction in her.

“Hey idiot, you know what?”, he stood up as he dramatically raised his hands.

“This world is a cruel place. When you don’t know where you are going on the endless road of life, look up at the stars. They will guide you. When there is darkness all around you, look at that moon, shining bright. It will give you hope. When you feel cold and there is no one around, light a fire. It will give you warmth. When you feel alone and you don’t see anyone. Stay patient. There will be someone who will embrace you and give you love.

When you feel like giving up, look at the sun, it rises every morning and falls every night but comes back again everyday.

When everyone around you mocks you for who you are, remind yourself. You are your own person. You live your life the way you want to and not on their prejudices.

When failure knocks at your door, give him a smile and say thank you. You have delivered a very valuable item, a step to success.”

She still doesn’t face him. So turns around on his heel dramatically and places a hand on his heart.

“Oh Lord, What happened to this little girl? Her hopes burnt away. Her nightmare turned to reality. What is this life you are giving her?

Her eyes droop at all the hate she faces. She flinches at every turn she takes. She has fallen so many times, it is almost traumatic for her.”

He looks at her lonely figure intensely. And his eyes meet hers as she looks at him curiously.

Giving a sad smile, he continues. There is no pity there but empathy.

“Everytime your anxiety strikes, everytime you hyperventilate, remember that this is not what you deserve. You don’t deserve to sit here in a meek corner and hide yourself. You don’t deserve all the stereotypes thrown at you. You are your own person. You get to make your decisions and be proud of them.

Your eyes look so sad. The grief in them would have killed another person. This proves you are strong. This proves you are much more than you think you are.”

He looks at her eyes and says,

“Leave this world. Make one of your own. Leave that grief and believe that tomorrow will be better. Those people who hurt you are shameless. They don’t care for anything. They are listless. Why do you need to find love in them? Why do you need to believe what they say? Who you need to believe in is yourself.

You have the greatest most amazing thing with you; your mind and your heart. They are so beautiful. Look inside you. You are so much more than you know. Don't let these cowards bring you down. Get up and live your life the way you want to.”

Silence, it almost felt deafening and then she spoke,

“Huh. Easy for you to say. Weren’t you the one who said that I was not worth it? So, why now? Why come back and say all this?”, she mocked as her eyes fell on him. Though her expression showed disdain, her heart couldn’t help but flutter with hope.

“I admit I was wrong and I am sorry for that.”, he said as he scratched behind his neck awkwardly, “But in my defense, Who am I to decide your worth? It is you who decides that. I was being a hypocrite yesterday. Don’t listen to me if I spout rubbish in the future, okay?”, he gave her a hopeful look. His eyes pleaded as he looked at her soulless and blank ones.

But then, the corner of her lips turned up slightly and she said,

“Huh, like the one you gave me now.”

Her words striked him like lightning. You would have even heard the thunder after.

Dumbfounded, he gaped like a fish as he looked at her figure that was already in the distance.

“You damn Nerd, wait! That was supposed to be encouraging not some … rubbish! And where are you going?”, he asked trying to catch up.

Keyword : try.

He couldn't do it because she was always a step forward.

Her eyes flashed with a determined look as she pronounced every word.

Oh, me? I am going to make my own world and write my own destiny.

Thank you all for reading!

I just wanted to say, I am back! And I will be posting frequently. The above short story is one of my initial works. So, if you find any mistakes, please notify me politely. There is a use of a lot of metaphors and a deep writing. I like this article because of its depth. Its not the best but I like it.
